One of the last Missouri Pacific Texas Eagles
to arrive at the T&P station in Fort Worth, Texas in February 1969. I
had just begun working for the Weather Burean (now National Weather Service)
at the time in Fort Worth and walked to the station from downtown. As I remember,
it was cold and drizzly. Only a handful of passengers got off the 2-hour
late train. The photos were dark and the color was off.
Karl D. Spence of the Railspot list sent the following: "In
Sept of '68 the Texas Eagle ran coaches, a diner coach and a sleeper from
St Louis to Ft. Worth. By the time you took the photos the sleeper must have
been discontinued. The train in Sept split at Longview with a section going
to San Antonio and Laredo and another section from Palestine to Houston.
Your train was actually #21 but still called the Texas Eagle. I guess the
service to El Paso was dropped earlier. I remember the through slumbercoach
and sleeper from Washington to Dallas via the National Limited. I used to
see it all the time at Silver Spring."
Engine 31 was on the lead, an E-8 I believe.
All in February 1969 at Fort Worth.
