In the River Market, Little Rock, at 2:28 p.m. Quite a few tourists
today.

LEFT-Looking westward in the River Market. RIGHT-I waited for the
streetlight to change to yellow.

LEFT-Leaves on the curb next to the tracks. RIGHT-On way to the Clinton
Presidential Library and the Heifer International
Center, a charity that donates animals to families worldwide for
farming. Their building is totally 'green' and made from recycled
materials and its water supply is all from collected rain water.

LEFT-From the trolley you can see the I-30 signs. We go under the
interstate. I-30 ends just across the Arkansas River in North Little
Rock, merging with I-40 there. It's a short interstate, only going
between Little Rock and the Dallas-Fort Worth area. RIGHT-Trolley 409
at the Clinton Presidential Library stop, currently the end
of the line. It's supposed to be extended another 3 miles to the Little
Rock airport in the future. The current system is about 3.4 miles long.
They run from 11 a.m. to 10 p.m. Mon-Tu-Wed, 11 a.m. to midnight
Thu-Fri-Sat and 11 a.m. til 5 p.m. Sundays. Some days they start
earlier.

The bridge in the distance is the old Rock Island bridge over the
Arkansas River, now owned by the Clinton Library. Some day they're
supposed to make it a walking bridge.

Here's a March 2005 photo of the Rock Island bridge.

Another March 2005 photo.

The original Rock Island Choctaw Route station remains as part of the
Clinton Library complex (March 2005
photo)

The Choctaw Route sign is still part of the building.

LEFT-Back to November 6, 2007 onboard the trolley, going back to town.
An
apartment in the building out the left window is home to Ted Danson (of TV series 'Cheers' fame) and
his wife, actress Mary Steenbergen (a
native of North Little Rock). Every once in a while, they ride
the streetcars.

LEFT-Fall leaf lights on the trolley.

RIGHT-From the Main Street bridge going back to North Little Rock taken
from
the streetcar.

The old Missouri Pacific Junction Bridge over the Arkansas River is
being tunred into a walking path. It was donated by the UP to the City
in 2001.

Leaving the Alltel stop, heading north.

Here's some scenes of the
abandoned UP spur to Camp Robinson (Army
National Guard-home of the 39th Infantry)
in North Little Rock, AR on November 8. I live only a few blocks from
this location. The last time this line was used was during the first
Gulf War in 1991. UP had officially asked for abandonment way back in
the 1970s I believe, but the US Army didn't want it abandoned and as I
understand it, still wants the line in place. As far as I can
tell, it
hasn't been maintained since the mid 1990s and there's a large washout
area in the distance. Trees that had fallen during the 2000 ice storm
are still across the track in some areas. Does anybody know the future
plans of this line? The switch off UP's Van Buren Sub near Levy
Avenue
under the I-40 overpass was removed a few years ago. I remember a
couple of years ago, the City of North Little Rock met with UP
regarding making a trail of this right of way once its abandoned.
