SEPTEMBER 28, 2003 at Union Station, Little Rock. Included today are photos
of Union Station itself, an old Southern Pacific emblem, two CSX units heading
trains, including one with the new CSX colors, BNSF trackage rights train
with a Montana Rail Link blue unit as the third unit, and new ties being
readied for installation. For more current/past rail photos, go to http://www.trainweather.com/sunday.html
I've joined and contribute to a travel journal website called
IgoUgo.com. If you want to see some of
my journals including photos, it's free - just search for my guidename -
ducksunset. Most journals there are not railroad related, but I did put the
Idaho Cascadian trip on there. (Ken Ziegenbein)
A stop sign has been put up on the turnout before the old River Line, which
has now been taken up partially. The track to the right went to the
old Capital City Casket Company, which is still standing, but vacant.
New ties were laid out about 2 weeks ago in preparation of a major rehab
of the two main lines past Union Station. In fact, there were some UP people
there today, September 28, doing prelim work. The line where John is standing
is the remnant of the old River Line which used to go into Little Rock past
the Riverfront Market and hotels. Some of this track remains next to the
Arkansas River between the river and the Old State House.
The building at left was once the Capital City Casket Company then became
a furniture warehouse. It's now vacant. Union Station is to the right,
which is now the headquarters of Presidential Candidate Wesley Clark, at
least on one floor.
UP2390 southbound just coming off the Baring Cross Bridge over the Arkansas
River, making its' sharp right turn to go in front of Union Station. Time
was 951 am on September 28.
View looking south/west. The train switched tracks to the east main.
Base of old light tower close to the Baring Cross bridge with the UP No Tresspassing
sign. It was our understanding that the roadbed where the track has been
taken up belongs to the city - at least it was since the track stopped being
used to the River Market area.
UP9703, 1032 am northbound.
CSX7379, 1050 am shown passing a northbound intermodal.
CSX8855 with the new CSX paint scheme at 1107 am.
Three rock cars.
Scrap metal gon with an old Southern Pacific logo. Don't they re-apply these
logos on cars a few times to keep the copyright ownership current?
UP4852, 1125 am.
BNSF4103, 1135 am with Montana Rail Link the trailing unit.
Montana Rail Link 309.
Views of Union Station and the State Capitol from the hill on the north side
of the tracks.
