Thursday, September 21, Saturday, September 22, and Sunday, September 24, 2006 at Union Station in Little Rock. Of special interest: two SP tank cars, a pure KCS-powered train on Sunday, two BNSF trains on Sunday, two trains using the Amtrak siding on Saturday (up close and personal). Saturday started out hot and humid - 82 degrees at 9 a.m. - and ended cooler and drier after a line of strong thunderstorms moved through. Sunday was cool and breezy with a deep blue sky. There are 20 photos in all.

LEFT-Old SP tank cars No. 67321 and 67312 on Thursday, September 21, 2006 passing Union Station. To the right of the tank car is a CNW PS-2 4427 cuft low side hopper No. 96185, about 40 years old (per someone on Trainorders.com). RIGHT-
September 23, 2006, Saturday at 10:39 a.m. this southbound train used the Amtrak siding track to pass the northbound empty coal train. Very slow going on this track.

LEFT-UP 2855 on the Amtrak siding, southbound.  RIGHT-With the empty coal train still not cleared, a northbound gets the green signal to also use the Amtrak siding on Saturday.

LEFT-UP 1836 starts past the station at 11:04 a.m. RIGHT-Ant's eye view of UP 1836 as I sat on the platform. The engineer, of course, was ringing the bell. It was warm and humid, about 85 degrees (the low was only 79 the night before), and this was my last shot on Saturday since a line of thunderstorms was about to move into the area.

LEFT-Now it's Sunday, September 24 as UP 3680 passes the station at 9:00 a.m. RIGHT-UP 4925, 9:28 a.m. This day was much cooler (in the upper 50s) and drier.

LEFT-Relatively new KCS ACe 4029 leading a mixed freight with two other KCS units at 9:44 a.m. Was this a UP train with KCS power or a special KCS move? What was its symbol? RIGHT-KCS 662 was the third unit, SD40-2.

LEFT-Low hauler.  RIGHT-BNSF 9734 and Conrail 8395, 9:57 a.m.

LEFT-Same as previous, closer.  RIGHT-Light engine move headed by NS 9529, 10:11 a.m.

LEFT-Santa Fe 8716, part of the light move.  RIGHT-UP 9409.

LEFT-BNSF 4482, 10:19 a.m.  RIGHT-CSX 664.

LEFT-Santa Fe 6955.  RIGHT-UP 5112, 10:33 a.m. Last shot of the day as I went to church to hear my wife play in the handbell choir.
