Sunday,
August 29, 2004 - The 'Razorback' submarine was moved to its display location
on the Arkansas River in North Little Rock, where it will call home and be
open to the public for tours. This World War II submarine was built in 1944
and has spent the last few years in Turkey. There were thousands of people
to greet it, including former servicemen who served onboard the submarine
over the years.
The media were in abundance. The right photo shows where the submarint docked
later in the day. Downtown Little Rock is seen across the Arkansas River.
Being towed downriver and under the Union Pacific Railroad's Baring Cross
bridge on its way to the display site. It was worked on at an old rock quarry
in North Little Rock for the past few months.
Another view of it going downstream.
Closeup of it moving downstream. No. 394 saw service in World War II, the Korean War, the Vietnam War.
View showing a helicopter overhead.
Going under the Broadway Bridge, still going downstream.
Wide-angle view showing the Broadway Bridge and Little Rock in the background.
After going downstream past the Interstate 30 bridge, it was turned around
and came back upstream toward its display site. Time here was 5:01 p.m. August
29, 2004.
Passing in front of the 150-year old Old State House.
There were many small boats around.
Almost to the docking site.
Part of the crowd.
A navy band was present as were scores of dignitaries.
More of the crowd.
From a distance.
