On Saturday, October 27, 2007, UP had
an open house at their Palestine, Texas yard complex in conjunction
with the city's Octoberfest celebration. They had miniature train rides
on UP's rubber-tire train, plus Heritage locomotive 1982 (MoPac) and
Bush locomotive 4141 were on display with walk-up ramps so you could
walk through them both (I got photos inside and out). UP
employees also had a free breakfast open to the public with LOTS of
food, of which I naturally partook.
We were on our way to New Ulm, Texas for my old chruch's 140th
anniversary celebration and we spent the night in Palestine on the
Friday night before so I decided to get up early and go to the UP open
house before we headed south. While at the Holiday Inn Express, we saw
several families who were there for the Thomas the Tank Engine rides at
the Texas State Railroad. (All photos copyright Ken Ziegenbein)

Don't forget you can order a
new UP 2008 calendar from the Arkansas
Railroad Club as a fundraiser for $10 plus $3 postage. This is a
fundraiser for the
club and contains a photo from yours truly, Ken Ziegenbein (the February photo of the 844). As
you know, the entire calendar is steam and current heritage locomotive
photos. For details, click this link: http://www.trainweather.com/up2008calendar.html

From the parking lot looking toward downtown Palestine, Saturday
October 27, 2007.

I thought they did an
exceptional job on this miniature train. It's used around the UP
system for special events.

The Moon was full. It was a nippy 49 degrees.

UP 1982 and 4141 were on display. RIGHT-UP 1982 with full Moon.

Open for tours.

From inside. I took the spot meter exposure reading through the window
then set the flash to 'always on' to get both outside and inside
exposures.

RIGHT-Arden.

RIGHT-The free breakfast.
