Saturday, October 8, 2005 in New Ulm, Texas showing a train parked after the crew ran out of time.  Plus an old Santa Fe boxcar used for storage with 'Santa Fe all the way' still visible.  Plus on Sunday morning, another train was parked on the siding to the west of Highway 109.  It was parked there all Saturday night and I could hear a low-grade rumbling sound all night long as the engine idled.

This old Santa Fe car has been in this field in New Ulm, Texas for decades. I thought I'd better get a photo before all the markings disappeared. Taken Oct 8, 2005.

Union Pacific tracks through New Ulm, Texas on October 8, 2005. A string of rock/stone cars were on the first siding with the motive power in back of me.

Waiting for a crew. This train had parked here about 6:30 this morning due to the crew expiring. It's just after 1 p.m. The crew van showed up about 1:15.

A view of local street crossing looking east toward 'downtown' New Ulm.

Engine 7538 faces east toward Cat Spring and Sealy.  It was idling.

View from the west side of the tracks looking toward downtown.

'Artsy' shot of 7538, all alone, idling.

A little farther away showing all the dry grass. It hadn't rained in New Ulm since July.

Same scene zoomed in.

Tracks east of town.

It's relatively rare that a train parks here and even more rare when I'm in town, so I got another shot.

Rather scenic showing a tree and the train with a dark blue sky.

Sunday morning, October 9, 2005 on the west side of Highway 109 in New Ulm, UP 7524 was idling in front of a rock train. The New Ulm sign is to the right.

Reminds me of the old late 1960s Katy main line in New Ulm, this number 2 siding track doesn't look too safe to move over to me. UP had a major track gang in the area two years ago replacing the ties and roadbed on the main line itself and the first siding.
