Monday night/Tuesday morning, April
17-18, 2006, at the Amtrak Station in Little Rock trying out my
high-sensitivity setting (ISO 3200) with and without flash as the
Texas Eagle No. 22 came in. Using such a high ISO reading means
some
grain and noise in the photos, especially if you zoom in. However, I
enjoy the possibilities of this type of night photography. I'm using a
new Sony Cyber-Shot R1 DSLR.

LEFT-Tracks in front of Union
Station looking east about 11:30 p.m. April 17. No flash used here, ISO
3200. RIGHT-Same shot using the
flash and ISO
3200. You'll notice some splotches on the photo, but the lens was clean
as far as I can tell (it's new). Also, these show up more on other
photos and not at all on some. And they're in different places on
different photos. I'll have to work on that.

No flash of signals.

LEFT-Union Station Little Rock,
about 11:40 p.m. - no flash, ISO 3200. RIGHT-Same shot with flash.

LEFT-Passengers waiting about
midnight April 17, taken from the top of the stairwell. No flash.
RIGHT-No. 22 arriving about
12:15 a.m. April 18.

LEFT-Engine No. 7 with the
flash, taken from the top of the stairwell. RIGHT-The whole train using the flash and ISO
3200.

LEFT-Ground level with
flash. RIGHT-With flash,
almost ready to depart at 12:20 a.m. The waiting platform was recently
redone with new yellow pads.

LEFT-Leaving with flash. You
can see the
debris again. I do use a protective lens on front of the regular Carl
Zeiss lens. I might try other shots like this wihout that protective
lens. RIGHT-Lounge
car. You can see the TV on in the dome.

LEFT-Super noisy. Not sure why
the one of the lounge car didn't have these splotches. RIGHT-Inside the station after the train left,
using the flash.

Wihout flash, ISO still at 3200.
