SUNDAY, MARCH 10, 2002. Scenes today show trackwork
and a couple of cars still turned over when a few cars of a northbound (I
believe) UP freight derailed predawn last Friday morning, March 8,
at the north switch in front of Union Station in Little Rock. Apparently,
the gondolas were carrying sand. The Amtrak switch to Amtrak's siding was
damaged and removed and hadn't been replaced as of Sunday morning. I was
waiting on the CSX 769 SD70 MAC unit, but traffic was so backed up that it
was still in Texas after dark Sunday after leaving Arlington, Texas at 3
Sunday morning. It finally went through Little Rock about 10 Monday morning,
but I was working and missed it.

Views of wreck site. A 10 mph slow order was posted on this section and we
noticed that only the southbound loaded coal trains used the crossover switch
this morning.

10 mph or less when it suddenly stopped, with dust flying from every car.
