Here are some photos taken of the Central Arkansas River Rail streetcars on Sunday, November 14, 2004 in both North Little Rock and Little Rock. The trees were a bright red along President Clinton Avenue (East Markham) and the overcast day made the fall colors more vivid.  Revenue service on the streetcars began on November 8, and ridership has been higher than anticipated (Saturday had standing room only).  Cost per ride is only 50 cents, with an all-day pass $2. A member of the Northern California Railroad Club, Peter Erhich, visited on Saturday to see the trolleys. If I'm not mistaken, he's also an operator of San Francisco's cable cars. He said he enjoyed seeing the new $850,000 streetcars here.
Due to the expected out of town visitors of over 30,000 coming on Thursday, November 18, for the opening of President Clinton's Presidential Library, the trolleys will not run in Little Rock that day, only in North Little Rock. Many streets will be closed to auto traffic, including the one with the trolley tracks and it is expected to be jammed with people. Also, along with Clinton himself, other past Presidents will be here on Thursday, including Jimmy Carter, George H. W. Bush, Sr and the current President George W. Bush. The Secret Service has also closed the Arkansas River to navigation that day. Should be quite a madhouse. I may lock myself here safely in the house.  If you want to contact me, click HERE.

Two waiting for the trolley at North Little Rock, right outside the trolley barn. They start running at 11 a.m. every day, but it was only a quarter till here. He was doing a test run along the entire system, I assume to check the current.

Going south on North Little Rock's Maple Street. The trolley barn is back of me.

Eastbound on President Clinton Avenue, about to enter the River Market's restaurant and shop district. The Peabody Hotel is in the distance.

Closer shot.

Looking to the east along President Clinton Avenue.

River Market sign.

You can see two streetcars in this view, looking west on President Clinton Avenue (former East Markham)

Another view of two streetcars. Three years ago, I'd never had thought it'd be possible to have streetcars back in the city.

About to turn south on Cumberland Street.

South on Cumberland.
