to Mark Silverberg of One Track Mind Hobbies for calling me to give me
the heads up on the 1988.

The 1988 arrived at 5:22 p.m. and stopped here, waiting for a
southbound.

A little closer. The sun was on on the opposite side of the engine.

After taking out more of the backlight and haze.

Just sitting. I took my spot meter reading on the grey fuel tanks. The
sun was shining on the other side.

A southbound is about the pass. The southbound will cross through the
turnover near the signals from the Number 1 to the Number 2 main. It's
5:23 p.m.

Hey....Merry Christmas. HLCX 6298 passes the 1988 at 5:24 p.m.
September 22 (a day and a half before Hurricana Rita was supposed to
hit the Texas coast near Houston). I lost sight of the 6298 on the crt
viewfinder because the sun was making it too bright, otherwise I would
have taken the picture a few seconds sooner.

The Katy with a MoPac gondola.

That southbound had these two work cars that UP stores in Little Rock
on the rear, painted in the yellow streamliner colors. They were on
their way to Longview, Texas, according to John C. Jones or our
railroad club. Yellow UP and
red Katy! No, that's not one of us railfans to the right of the Little
Rock and Western tracks. He was a crew member from the 1988 who was
also taking pictures. He seemed to be proud to be onboard the heritage
locomotive.

Another shot.

Crew member taking pictures.

Back on the train.

The other half of the crew gets back on after the southbound passed.
The signal had just gone green. It was about 5:30 p.m. Click on the
above photo or this LINK
