Forty photos of the Ringling Brothers-Barnum &
Bailey circus train, blue unit, in Little Rock, Arkansas on June 4,
2007 taken by JOHN C. JONES .
He also got great shots of the elephants being loaded onto their rail
cars, plus some shots only he could get on UP property, such as
the Baring Cross bridge (John has permission to be on UP property and
takes a lot of photos for local UP publications). To email John,

Circus elephants at the Arkansas State Fairgrounds, 11:55 a.m. June 4.

Starting to march the elephants to the circus train, which just had
moved the animal cars to the tracks at 16th Street in Little Rock. This
is on the parking lot of the Fairgrounds. 12:34 p.m. June 4.

Leaving the State Fairgrounds at 12:36 p.m.

Other animals follow.

Crossing under Roosevelt Road.

At milepost CPX 348, on the old Rock Island-now UP's line to Biddle and
southward to Pine Bluff.

Zonkeys, a cross between a
zebra and a donkey,
arrive at the train at 12:58 p.m.

Is this a tight fit or what?

At 1:35 p.m. the animal cars of the train were backed to the NLR UP
yard to hook up to all the other cars for the trip south. There were 59
cars on the train.

Back at the yard area at 4:23 p.m. almost ready to leave.

Leaving North Little Rock, about to cross the Baring Cross Bridge over
the Arkansas River into Little Rock. John was standing on the signal
tower (like I've said, he has UP
permission to do this as one of their photographers - in other words,
dont try this at home). (All photos taken by John C. Jones)

Look south at Little Rock and the state Capitol building.

Looking north at the long train.

A sand barge going under the bridge.

Looking north through the bridge from the Little Rock side, 4:40 p.m.

At 4:47 p.m. Little Rock & Western 101 is heading south across the
brige.

Looking south around the curve that will pass in front of Union
Station.

A passing northbound on the bridge at 4:55 p.m.

Passing in front of Union Station (to the right out of the picture) at
5:35 p.m. heading for Louisiana.

I think it'd be fun to be in that bus on the last car. Bet the
slack action would make the ride rough though.
