This was our last day at Glacier Lodge. We drove to Whitefish, Montana for lunch and sightseeing and returned to the lodge for the night. We saw these decorated bears in a park in Whitefish, which were to be auctioned off for a charity cause in September.
These decorated bears were in a park in Whitefish, Montana, August
30 and were to be auctioned off for charity in September. The upper left
shot shows the old Great Northern depot, now served by Amtrak's Empire
Builder. The lower right is the Whitefish library.
The bears were in a roadside attraction simply saying "See live Grizzly
bears." It was located between Essex and East Glacier, Montana on US Highway
2. You drove your car through the park with your windows up and bears,
both black and grizzly, were all around. These bears were born in captivity
so couldn't be let lose in the wild anyway. There were two men in the park
walking with and feeding the bears. It was a better park than we thought
and the bears had lots of room to roam. Notice the bear at the bottom -
don't you think he's staring right at me, wondering if I were lunch?
These three scenes were my final sunsets from the Lodge, the one above
looking east toward the train station, the two below looking west toward
the mountains.
