We drove from Pierre, South Dakota to Gillette, Wyoming. We saw the Badlands of South Dakota, Deadwood, South Dakota and Devil's Tower in Wyoming among other things.

Above scenes are all of the Badlands in South Dakota taken August 26,
2002. The animals are Pronghorn Antelopes seen in the National Park.

Wall, South Dakota. We saw advertisements next to the road in several
states for the Wall Drug store and went to see. It was a large eatery with
lots of stuff to buy and was full of people.

Mount Moria cemetery in Deadwood, South Dakota has the gravesites of
Wild Bill Hickok and Calamity Jane. Their graves are next to each other
per her request. His has the statue and hers is just to the right. The
street scene is downtown Deadwood.
ALL THE FOLLOWING PHOTOS ARE OF DEVIL'S TOWER IN WYOMING. You will also see a herd of buffalo next to the tower and fields of prairie dogs. Devil's Tower is the first National Monument in the United States (Yellowstone was the first National Park). Attendance has at least tripled since it was featured in the movie "Close Encounters of the Third Kind" in the 1970s as the place where aleins landed. (No, there were no signs of spaceships there, although some of the people in the park were kind of spacy!). The first photo was taken a few miles away and shows a thunderstorm to the east.

The last large column of the Tower fell off 10,000 years ago and the
entire tower will eventually erode away. The surrounding land once was
at the top of the volcanic Tower but has eroded and washed away through
the millenium.
