Includes beautiful pictures of fields of sunflowers plus De Smet, South Dakota, more Little House sites. We made it only as far as Pierre, South Dakota today - too much to see. The sunflower pictures are at the bottom of this page.
Scenes of Lake Preston, South Dakota, near De Smet. Then we visited
the Ingalls Homestead in De Smet.

All of the above are related to the Ingalls/Wilder homestead and gravesite
in De Smet, South Dakota. The lower right photo is downtown De Smet. Also
included is a photo of the original surveyors house Ingalls lived in. The
homestead didn't have any original buildings, but was on the original site,
so all the things Laura Wilder wrote about could be viewed at that site,
which had buildings, animals and a schoolhouse of that late 1800s/early
1900s era. They took you on a horse-drawn wagon ride to the school and
had a sample class. The graves were of Mother and Father Ingalls, plus
others in some of the stories.
The sunflowers were next to the highway east of Pierre, South Dakota.
As you can see, the road was straight and the flowers went on and on.
The roses at the bottom were from a restaurant outside Pierre, as was
the sunset.
