AUGUST 22, 2002

We left Independence about 10 a.m. and drove to Topeka for the night. More scenes of the Wilder home, since they were not open the day before.

The scenes above are all of the Wilder home near Independence, Kansas. It shows the inside of a school of the era, plus signs around the park. The scene of the open field was taken from behind the one-room house where Laura and her parents lived for a year in 1869-1870.

LEFT-Repllica of the first commercially successful oil derrick, three  blocks from where it was originally, near Neodesha, Kansas. RIGHT-Traffic was stopped on US 75 due to construction south of Yates Center.

We ate at Frannies in Yates Center, Kansas, where two retired ladies make close to 20 different pies each day and have lunch specials for only $1. They also donate food to shelters and the needy in town.

LEFT-A flower called a "Mystery Lily" because they randomly grow without leaves. This was at Burlington, Kansas. RIGHT-A quilt shop in Topeka.

Sunset from hotel at Topeka, August 22, 2002.
