Wednesday, April 7, 2004 at La Grange, Texas showing one UP empty rock train plus scenes of the neat little former-Katy depot there. EMAIL

UP 3404 on an empty GRR rock train west/northbound through La Grange, Texas, 845 a.m. Wednesday, April 7, 2004.  Note the closeness of the side streets to the track. It was pretty noisy about now.

One scene of the rock train facing west, where the track curves to the right behind the trees, one scene looking east and one showing the last car passing the crossing. The  lower right  photo is of  the graveyard in La Grange with the Katy (UP) tracks in the front about to cross Business Hwy 71.

The old Katy depot seems to be in pretty good shape, but it wasn't occupied. This is the depot where we deboarded a UP E-unit special train sponsored by the Gulf Coast Chapter back in 1994, 1995 or 1996 (I don't remember). That train ran from Houston to Smithville and return.

Photos of the Katy depot. Right behind the station is the 'Chicken Ranch General Store' which sells antiques and has pictures of the aforementioned famous chicken ranch buildings inside.
