FRIDAY, FEBRUARY 27, 2004 on the KCS in Heavener and Page, Oklahoma and Rich Mountain and Mena, Arkansas.

KCS shops in Heavener, Oklahoma.

LEFT-KCS6620 at the shops. RIGHT-Old boxcar in Heavener.

KCS2005, 309 pm, leaving Heavener southbound. Notice the freshly painted purple building just to the right of the locomotive in downtown Heavener.

KCS2005 was hauling a mixed freight to Shreveport.

Page, Oklahoma, 341 p.m. Bill Bailey was also taking pictures.

Starting downhill at Page.

Nearing Rich Mountain. It looks like it's running on US Highway 59 in this view. (Just think, you can go south on US 59 from this rural  location, drive for 10 hours, and you'd be on the Southwest Freeway in Houston, Texas without every having to change highways!)

Rich Mountain, Arkansas, 426 p.m. The train stopped here while waiting for MOW work ahead and Bill Bailey and I got to talk to the crew, including engineer Earl Hardy, who said he was retiring in April. They were very friendly.

Finally leaving Rich Mountain at 505 p.m. The second unit was KCS2038.

Southbound through Mena, Arkansas, 529 p.m.
